01Your first visit

An hour, unhurried.

The first appointment is deliberately long. It is where the diagnosis is made, so nothing about it is rushed — and you leave with a written plan rather than a follow-up to arrange it.

02On the day

Hour by hour

A first appointment runs to a shape. Knowing it in advance makes the hour easier to use well.

0–10 min01

Arrival and paperwork

Arrive ten minutes early. You will complete a short pain history form — or bring the one sent with your confirmation, already filled in.

10–35 min02

History and examination

How the pain began, what makes it worse, what you have already tried, and how it affects sleep, work and movement. Then a focused physical examination.

35–50 min03

Imaging and explanation

Any scans are reviewed on screen with you. We explain what is causing the pain in plain language, and are honest when the picture is incomplete.

50–60 min04

Your plan

Options, likely benefit, risks and costs. You leave with a written plan and a copy goes to your GP the same week.

03Preparation

What to bring

Bringing these makes the difference between a diagnosis on the day and a second appointment to gather them.

  • Your GP referral letter, if you have one
  • Any scan reports or discs — MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound
  • A current list of medications and doses
  • Insurance details, membership and authorisation number
  • Notes on treatments already tried and how they went
  • Loose clothing, in case an examination is needed
