Our aim
People arrive at this site in pain, often on a phone, sometimes using a screen reader or keyboard only. The site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA, and the design decisions below exist for that reason rather than for style.
What we have done
- Body text is set at 17–18px with generous line height; no secondary text is lighter than the AA contrast threshold against the page.
- Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard in a logical order and shows a visible focus ring.
- A skip link is the first thing a keyboard or screen-reader user reaches on every page.
- Accordions and menus are native buttons with correct expanded state, not clickable divs.
- All motion is suppressed when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Images carry descriptive alternative text, and decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
- The layout reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320px and at 200% zoom.
- Structure uses one H1 per page with headings in order, and landmarks for header, navigation, main and footer.
Known limitations
The printable referral template and pain diary are laid out for A4 paper; on a very small screen they are readable but dense. PDF documents supplied by third parties are outside our control and may not be tagged for screen readers.
